KINETIK SCULPTURE

BMW Museum Munich, Germany
in operation since 2008

Client: ART+COM Studios

In a six-square-metre field, 714 metal spheres are suspended from the ceiling on thin steel wires and animated with the help of mechanics, electronics and code. The theme of the installation is the form-finding process in car design, which is performed in a seven-minute choreographed sequence.

In 2008, this kinetic was revolutionary in its language of form and movement. The precise translation of digital pixels into physical space required a rethinking of the available mechanics and the development of proprietary control software. At that time MKT was the only company to take up this challenge.
