MAKING OF LOOPS

After more than two years of development, we are delighted to share a making-of-video of our latest kinetic installation at the new Anna-Seiler-Haus of Bern’s Inselspital – one of the biggest hospitals in Switzerland.

«Loops» follows the different users' dynamics and daily rhythms to deliver a holistic well-being experience, contributing to a positive change for employees, patients, and visitors. The installation symbolizes and reflects the values of the Insel Gruppe: Humanity, Quality, Collaboration, Competence, Innovation and Integrity.

The installation covers a 23m high atrium with 24 illuminated rings driven by 48 bespoke winches engineered and manufactured by MKT engineering, suspended in midair in continuous operation – precise, safe, and durable.

With and on behalf of our great partners at kpm3 , «Loops» was commissioned by and developed in collaboration with Studio Banana , Insel Gruppe , Archipel Generalplanung AG and SpY .

OPENING OF PRIMEO ENERGY

First images of our most recent project! Yesterday we had the media preview for tomorrow's opening of the Primeo Energie Kosmos in Münchenstein, Switzerland.

For this exciting and challenging project, we realized more than 20 interactive exhibits, several special installations and scenographic elements with and on behalf of our great partners at kpm3. Many thanks for the good cooperation!

Finally we are allowed to share first pictures! This time our core competence to move suspended loads precisely was of a very practical nature... (but still absolutely beautiful!)

The former soundstage TON 1 of the famous Berlin Union Film Ateliers, which is almost 100 years old, has been transformed into a unique and multifunctional, state-of-the-art event space Atelier Gardens for Fabrix UK. The new design by MVRDV creates a highly flexible space through the use of a single stand-out feature: an intricate overhead curtain rail that becomes a focal point of the space. The 200m LED-lit-track-system was engineered, manufactured and installed by MKTengineering GmbH & Co. KG.

This challenging and special project has been a great collaboration with our friends and partners of kpm3 and Gerriets GmbH. Thank you very much! And many thanks for the local support of Hirschmüller Schindele Architekten and Ledxon GmbH for the LEDs.

Today, at the conference of Ecsite, the European network of science centres and museums, the panel "Exhibit the Future?" features three major future exhibitions/Museums: Museum Of The Future (Dubai), Das Zukunftmusem of Deutsches Museum (Nürnberg) and Futurium (Berlin).

MKTengineering GmbH & Co. KG is proud to have engineered and manufactured essential elements, exhibits and attractions for all three projects - in close collaboration with the creative teams of ATELIER BRÜCKNER and ART+COM and the responsible teams of the construction companies on site.

PETALCLOUDS AT EYE LEVEL

This is a rare opportunity to see the kinetic installation „Petalclouds“ close to ground level in its full beauty at Changi Airport, Singapore.

As Terminal 4 is still closed, we are currently using that opportunity for a comprehensive maintenance to ensure future operation. Usually, the installation is in operation 18 hours per day (since 2018).

Petalclouds has been designed by ART+COM and engineered, manufactured and installed by MKT.

AION ∞ JOACHIM SAUTER

Today, we finished the installation of Joachim Sauter’s last kinetic artwork. A true masterpiece. Commissioned by the University of the Arts / Universität der Künste Berlin for their concert hall entrance area here in Berlin. The university where he held a professorship in media design since 1991.

Joachim worked with us on this until his passing last July. We continued the engineering and manufacturing process with his colleagues Jussi Ängeslevä and Susanne Träger - both involved in Joachim's kinetic-projects at ART+COM for many years.

I knew Joachim for more than 30 years. The collaboration in his kinetic projects, the search for the optimal technical solution and aesthetics always meant a lot to me. I would have liked to show him that we (MKTengineering GmbH & Co. KG) managed to control the 12 pendulums with just one actuator and that the decision for the hand-finished brass surface was exactly the right one as it just looked perfect today.

His work and attention to detail make people feel emotionally connected, it always gives space an identity. So it does here as well.

The renaissance of the physical - that’s how he called it.

It is all about beauty and poetry.

FLOWER MEADOW

Flower Meadow, by Swiss collective iart ag, in collaboration with MKTengineering GmbH & Co. KG, was recently part of an exhibition at 180 The Strand, London.

The five kinetic screen sculptures each consisted of six flexible OLED screens. Arranged in petal-like formation, and controlled by a complex drive, they opened up like natural blossoms.

The virtual flowers shown on the screens were put together with the help of an AI from thousands of flower images. Thus, the ceiling of the venue bloomed again and again with new flowers in ever-changing hues.

Here is some Flower Meadow - Kinetic Sculpture - "Making of" footage. Thank you iart ag !

Flower Meadow was created over a period of one year. Here you can see the design and engineering of the mechanically moved screen sculptures up to the development of the first prototype.

The kinetic installation is currently on show in the exhibition "LUX: A New Wave of Contemporary Art" in London. The exhibition is organised by SUUM Project in collaboration with Fact at 180 Studios, 180 The Strand.

The construction of an electromechanical flower sculpture that dynamically bends and tilts multiple OLED screens continuously in a permanent installation presented us with an exciting challenge - this was something that had never been done before!

After testing the feasibility in an extensive prototype and the construction of five flowers over a period of almost a year, a beautiful choreography can now be seen and experienced in an exciting exhibition in London.
